Textile Design Graduate Intern

Address: Lineside Industrial Estate, Littlehampton, West Sussex

Fledgling, quirky craft kit design company looking for a crafty intern to help turn ideas into products. The intern will gain first hand knowledge and experience of the entire prodct development marketing and supply chain of turning design ideas into actual products on the shelf. We design quirky cool craft kits for both adults and children and are looking for someone to work on the craft projects, make up samples, create tutorials, write instructions, photograph samples and catalogue and record all samples and materials. The ideal intern will be highly organized as they will generally be organizing and pulling together all design elements. You MUST be crafty and you must be able to hand sew and knit other crafts skills would be an advantage. The internship is for 6 months to 1 year and an allowance for travel expenses will be provided. You must also be able to use a PC and and Mac and have experience of creative suite (4). Expenses allowance will be paid

We have the opportunity for a machine knitter to join our designer brand in London, working full-time. There is an initial paid trial period. You must have experience in technical development for design, shape and stitch structure, knitting and finishing of high quality knitwear. Your range of expertise must include use of double bed Brother standard and chucky domestic knitting machine, knowledge of fully fashioned knitwear, a variety of knitting techniques such as intarsia, jacquard, plaiting and use of linking machine. You must be a dedicated, enthusiastic, organised and self-motivated person capable of working as part of a team.

Alison Morton - Handweaver

Address: The Old Coachhouse, Upper Linney, Ludlow, Shropshire SY8 1EF

Alison is a handweaver in linen, producing towels and tabel linens. She is looking for somebody who can assist with her work, or individuals who would like guidance with their own weaving projects. Alison is offering anything from one-day placements to discuss weaving problems and receive some mentoring, to one-week work experience working closely with her. Work experience placements are available from September to May.

Annazbell

Address: Based in London but with some travelling in the local area.

Placements for 3 months available all year round in fashion styling, beauty or journalism. The placement involves assisiting editors with research, street-style fashion reports, assist stylist at photoshoots, sample appointments and regular communication with press for content.

The William Morris Society

A creative person is required to demonstrate aspects of textile designing or production to members of the public at The William Morris Society's museum. Any method is considered, though they are particularly keen to work with someone who is inspired by Morris's work, such as weaving, dyeing, tapestry making and embroidery. This is a wonderful opportunity to publicise your work to the visiting public. This is a voluntary position available all year round.

The William Morris Society require a designer on a voluntary basis to create a pattern based on Morris's original textiles which can be adapted to form the basis of their educational projects with schools. The new design will be utilised by primary school children to make into a lino print for textile printing. This is a part time position available all year round.

The Warner Textile Archive are able to offer work experience or volunteer work in their store, which houses the Warner collection. Work will be varied and include helping the Archivist on any current projects, cataloguing designs, assisting clients, research and general assistance.

I have a gallery behind my house showing my pictures and locally designed jewellery, as well as a studio from where i run regular feltmaking workshops. The work experience would involve felting pictures I have designed, making demonstration samples for my teaching, helping with the gallery and general office admin. Placements would be for 3-4 days or possibly a week and are available all year round.

Utterly Bespoke work as an Umbrella Company encompassing Fashion Designers and Soft Furnishers who have skill and expertise. Young graduates and Trainee Assistants glean experience in the Design and Construction workshop, working directly to produce Bespoke Garments, Accessories and Soft Furnishings.

Salt are looking for weavers to work as outworkers to reproduce existing designs in short runs. All structures and designs are fairly straightforward but you will still enjoy the variety of working with different materials and projects. We welcome skilled weavers who wish to work on a permanent, temporary or occasional basis. All we ask for in return is commitment to quality and time management.

Work experience placements available during the summer, 3 days per week. Laura is a freelance designer for the home furnishings industry and also takes textile art projects for galleries. Laura is looking for students experienced and confident preparing warps to thread up on a 24 shaft AVL loom. Students will also help out with other general studio and admin jobs.
