The Rug Studio

The Rug Studio, founded in 2000, is an extension of a young girls dream. Weaving, lacemaking and patchworking from the age of 7 textiles were a passion that Rachel Bassill Simpson inherited from her mother and grandmother.

After gaining her BA Hons. as a weaver at Farnham Rachel went on to learn the art of restoration within the UK and the Middle East. After 14 years within the trade, the last 8 successfully trading as The Rug Studio, Rachel has built up a small enthusiastic team to work alongside her, which offer cleaning and restoration, duplication/production of bespoke rugs and sales of Antique and Contemporary rugs.

Passing on her extensive knowledge both to her team and enthusiasts in the UK, and for the last 6 years to a team in India, have been paramount to Rachel. This she achieves through the many lectures, demonstrations and workshops the studio offers.

As a recent mum the studio has moved from London to the wonderful countryside on the Bedfordshire Hertfordshire borders and is based less than 40 minutes from central London. A 7 day week concession is open within the popular old market town of Hitchin while the main working studio and extensive stock is at an old windmill a further 10 minutes up the road in Shefford, Beds. - although the studio continues to attend many antique and interior fairs locally and within London.

With large specialist areas for each service provided by the studio, attention to detail and customer demands can easily be met be it for the restoration of the smallest textile or a large antique carpet or the design and colour matching of a bespoke masterpiece The Rug Studio can help.
