The sumptuous cover of this book, featuring ‘Neptune’ by Raoul Dufy for Blanchini Ferier in 1920, makes you want to pick it up and take a peek inside.
The book covers the eras from Neo-Classicism to Pop in great detail. It contains fabrics that have all been chosen as they represent quality examples of the design movements of their time.
Each era has examples of different textiles and an in-depth feature of the background to the era and the historical background to textile production from design to manufacturing, all of which has been written by Sue Kerry.
The book covers Art Noveau, Modernism and Post War Textiles to 1977. On each page there are the most amazing images of the textiles described in the text. Some are full page and these give you a real ‘feel’ for the designs. The images are so good that they make you feel you can touch them and feel their texture.
If you like textiles in any form you will be able to use this book for design sources. If you are a serious textile student then the abundant information the book gives on all the textiles chosen will prove a valuable source for research.
At the back of the book there are Biographies of all the designers whose work is shown in the book and an extensive bibliography.
So judge this book by its cover and discover it is as good on the inside as it is on the outside.
