Some sort of “family osmosis” is how many of us learn to sew and it’s an effective way of getting started. Lorna Knight’s book, The Sewing Stitch Bible: an illustrated guide to techniques and materials, is a wonderful handbook to accompany you as you delve deeper.
A vast quantity of information is contained in a ring bound book which stays open at the page you need. The book is broadly divided into three sections – a stitch directory, techniques and applications, and a comprehensive textile directory. Each page is very well laid out with lovely clear photographs, diagrams and symbols, as well as informative text and colour coding. Really useful information fills the pages so improving the reader’s knowledge and technical skill. However, the author’s style also leaves room for individual experimentation and interpretation should this be your area of interest.
