This full-colour hardback book aims to introduce the reader to fabric manipulation or ‘orinuno’, meaning fabric folding. The name was coined by one of the authors, Wendy Lowes, who is an accomplished origami practitioner.
There are other more comprehensive books available on the subject such as The Art of Manipulating Fabric by Colette Wolff and several by Jennie Rayment, but this colourful book could appeal to readers new to fabric manipulation, while experienced makers may find new tips to add to their repertoire.
The book briefly covers the history of folded fabric techniques from around the world, preparation for the techniques covered, detailed instructions and basic quilt finishing techniques. There are 20 projects to inspire with each one having visual impact and tactile interest. By using their own colour and fabric choices the reader could transform the suggested projects into very original textile works with stunning sculptural qualities.
The strength of this publication lies in its abundance of colour photographs used to illustrate the techniques in an easy step-by-step format, with clear instructions and examples. It is a useful addition to the bookshelf of anyone interested in fabric manipulation.
