This is a very practical attractive book for all seeking to begin ply-split braiding. The A4 format, well-designed pages and beautiful full colour, including the coloured page tabs, all contribute to the clarity and logical progression of learning this section of the technique, known as Single Course Twining. Its origins in India and subsequent developments over many years by Julie Hedges are well illustrated.

The step-by-step instructions are excellent, supported by crisp close-up images and diagrams, with tips and key information showing well in the footer boxes. Having made just a few high twist cords, the reader can make a good variety of shapes and designs. There is a good section on cord making using either a hand-drill and cup hook or a 4-hook twister. The gallery pages are visually stimulating and inspirational; the list of suppliers comprehensive, and bibliography valuable.

I thoroughly recommend this book, and look forward eagerly to the sequels.
