The press release for this book begins with the phrase ‘Knitting just got oh so surreal.’ I concur with this statement!

The surreal-ness starts on the front cover with a charming illustration of Madonna, complete with the infamous corset and conical brassiere, bizarrely knitted from head to toe in pink and white wool.

This icon of the modern world joins the list of other hand knitted ‘Icons’ that fill the pages of this delightful book. This list includes such diverse characters as Bob Marley, Andy Warhol and The Queen.

Starting with a basic ‘doll’ shape each Icon is personalised with distinctive clothes and props; all hand made using readily sourced materials.

Good illustrations and easy to follow instructions are included and there is a ‘basics’ section for the complete beginner. The book also caters for the more experienced maker.

This book was fun to review and I recommend it to anyone with a sense of humour and an enjoyment of hand-crafting.
