Review by Bron Ellis
Chrissie Day has written several approachable books about handcrafts, this latest one covers many aspects of felting. Felt making has become very popular, especially the type where items are knitted and then felted randomly in a washing machine. The book includes patterns specially designed for knit to felt items, a section on the techniques used to make wet and dry felt and well illustrated step-by-step projects to make many other decorative items using wool yarn and loose fibres.
There is a comprehensive list of suppliers and the wool content of each project yarn to aid the choice of possible alternatives. The projects include bags, jewellery, scarves, accessories, slippers and hats. They are mostly simple designs and allow the reader to practice the various techniques whilst producing their own unique items. A newcomer to felting would find the book useful and inspirational.
