Review by Bron Ellis
At the moment there are many books on the market on various aspects of felting but some of them are quite superficial. This book is an upbeat and comprehensive introduction to felting by two popular American felt makers. Their enthusiasm for their craft shines through and they have designed the 26 projects with the absolute beginner in mind.
It explores, through clear instructions and photographs, the major felt making techniques, knit-and-shrink, wet felting with wool fibres, dry needle felting and "recycled felting," as well as giving ideas for yarn combinations and ways to combine the various techniques for creative and individual results.
The projects include bags, flowers, pincushions, hats, jackets, scarves and even a nuno-felted skirt. They suggest ways that old jumpers can be recycled into new felted garments, cushions and bags. Readers can easily customize the patterns with substitutions of yarn of their choice and examples are given of what they may look like after felting. This book would be a great first buy and you may never need another as you are encouraged to experiment and find your own creativity. I found the book really interesting and inspiring.
