A beautiful new book about bobbin lace for the beginner, from two experienced lace makers and teachers.
The book covers the equipment and materials needed with clear illustrations and diagrams. It describes the yarns traditionally used, but moves on to more colourful and varied yarns – adding a new dimension to what can be produced. A real opportunity when so many new yarns are available.
It goes on to describe Torchon lace making and identifies various stitches including cloth stitch, cross stitch and spider, in a step-by step guide. It then demonstrates how to make prickings and gives advice on generating longer pieces with easy to follow photographs.
Starting the beginner with how to make simple bookmarks, it moves on to provide full instructions for scarves and bags, using a variety of yarns.
Descriptions are concise and clear for the novice and there is constant reassurance and cross references to the process of lace making throughout the book, which should inspire the beginner with confidence.
It not only confirms the conventional approach to lace making but expands the boundaries for anyone interested in the art of textile production with beautiful colour photographs.
