All That Glitters is an excellent introduction to goldwork. It is clearly and concisely written, while full colour photographs throughout, with many detailed close ups, make for a good understanding of the text. There are helpful hints and tips for troubleshooting, which are relevant to all embroidery, not just goldwork. The instructions for dressing a frame are the best I have read.
The projects are equally well thought out, with full-size patterns and concise instructions. Some welcome additions to an historic technique are the use of modern fibres, like angelina, beading and fabric painting. Also, besides the usual framed pieces there are projects for a shawl, scarf and purse. Many of the motifs, like the dragonflies, butterflies, flowers and leaves, lend themselves to be worked as a single motif or incorporated into other embroideries. A quiet book, which grows on you and excellent value.
