Hopes and Dreams Bag

Hopes and Dreams Bag Textile artist Freya Perry loves to design all things faerie and her special Hopes and Dreams bag is no exception! She has chosen multi-coloured felt for the project but advises that “you can use any non fray fabrics instead, such as fleece.” The bag is created using simple stitching and is inexpensive as you can use scraps of fabric, ribbon and knitting wool from your store at home.

Difficulty rating: Easy – suitable for children

Materials needed:
  • Felt pieces 31 x 13cm – colours of your choice or any non fray material such as fleece
  • 2 small piece of felt to make butterfly wings
  • Sewing needles and matching thread
  • Scissors
  • Soft gold textile glitter Dylon is good
  • Hair dryer to speed up glitter drying
  • A small piece of paper and ribbon or knitting wool
  • Pen for writing

Love BugsThese fabulous and quirky love bugs make a great gift for that special someone, at Valentines Day and throughout the year. You can adapt the materials used to make love bugs in different colours and sizes when you get really confident with them!

  • Handmade felt
  • Buttons for eyes
  • Contrasting thread for the love bug
  • Beads/sequins for the arms and legs
  • Thick thread for the arms and legs
  • Needle
  • Stuffing
  • Pins, scissors and paper for template
  • Any other embellishments are optional

Buttons Ted This pattern will show you how to make the very beautiful Buttons Ted, which you can embellish in any way you like to make him personalised for his new owner. Buttons Ted was lovingly created by Sue Allan of SewSister and is guaranteed to be a much-loved addition to your family! For Buttons Ted you will need a template, which you can download here.

  • Black thread for the eyes
  • Matching colour thread for the ted
  • Teddy template
  • Needle

Bedtime Bunny

Bedtime Bunny All children love their teddy bears and the next project we have for you is guaranteed to keep the little ones happy. This delightful bedtime bunny snuggled up in his sleeping bag, was created specially for HotHive Textiles readers by Lindsay Roberts, owner of The Border Tart.

Difficulty rating: medium

Materials needed:
  • Two pieces of felt approx 15cm x 10cm and a few pins
  • Two contrasting shades of embroidery thread and a fine needle
  • A little wadding
  • Small quantity of four ply knitting yarn eg leftover sock yarn and a pair of 3.00mm knitting needles
  • Paper, pencil and scissors
