Machine embroidered greetings card - by Anne Kinniment

Machine embroidered greetings card - by Anne Kinniment This project will show you how to make a machine embroidered poppy meadow greetings card, designed by machine embroiderer Anne Kinniment. This card can be used for any occasion, or you could turn it into a framed picture for your wall.

Difficulty rating: Easy

Materials needed:
  • Unbleached calico
  • Medium sized wooden embroidery hoop with inner ring bound with tape
  • Setasilk dyes in gitane blue, primary yellow, iris and moss green
  • Acrylic paints in cadmium yellow, titanium white and cadmium red
  • Medium-sized paint brush, cocktail sticks
  • Machine embroidered threads in a range of greens
  • Small bits of red fabric, preferably silk
  • ‘Supermend’ for bonding bits of fabric to back

Flower Fairy Flowers

Flower Fairy Flowers Search Press have published a gorgeous book called Flower Fairies in Ribbon and Stumpwork, based on the books by Cicely Mary Barker. These books have captivated children and adults alike for more than 85 years and now, for the first time, five of the beautiful fairies are translated into exquisite ribbon and stumpwork embroideries. To give you a taster of the projects covered in the book, we have a section of the White Clover Fairy pattern for you to try. The pattern below will take you through creating the two beautiful clover flowers she is holding in her hand.

Difficulty rating: Hard

Materials needed:
  • 25 x 25cm 10in. block of fine cotton lawn
  • Small embroidery hoop
  • 4mm silk antique ribbon – colour Brown
  • Art Silk thread – colour Fresco Oil
  • 4mm silk ribbon – colour White Clover
  • Chameleon stranded silk – colour Elephant
  • Gumnut stranded silk – colour Rainforest Light
  • Chameleon stranded silk – colour Camellia
  • Wadding

Children's Keyrings

Children's Keyrings This pattern will show you how to make funky stitched keyrings and is ideal for children to get involved in. The pattern here uses a heart template but you can download different template shapes, including stars, flowers, dogs and cars, by clicking here. The keyring pattern was supplied to us by Alison at Stitchclub, an organisation that runs beginner sewing classes for children across the country, you can find out more about them here.

Flower Design Greetings Card

Flower Design Greetings Card This pattern will show you to how to make a gorgeous embroidered greetings card, and was supplied to us by embroiderer Claire Hurd www.clairehurd.co.uk. This card can be adapted using any type of flower you likes best and is guaranteed to bring a creative touch to the mantelpiece.

Difficulty rating: Easy

Materials needed:
  • Blank card and envelope the size I used was 10.5cm x 14.8cm
  • 4 brightly coloured co-ordinating papers
  • Co-ordinating adhesive ribbon
  • Small beads and sequins
  • Spray mount
  • Sticky tape
  • Flower punches in three different sizes optional
  • Quilting Rule optional
  •  Sewing machine optional

Fabric Heart

Fabric HeartWhy not create your own tokens of affection with these wonderful fabric hearts, designed by Amanda Luke of Amanda Luke Designs? This is a great pattern that can be adapted to suit your own colour schemes by using different fabrics.

Difficulty rating: Easy

Materials needed:
  • 1 piece of A4 card
  • Sewing machine
  • Small length of decorative or plain ribbon
  • Fabric pins
  • 1 piece of red felt
  • 1 piece of vintage/vintage style fabric
  • Stuffing or wadding
  • Thread
  • Fabric scissors
  • 1 chop stick!
