The Pfaff Art Embroidery Challenge

Article Added: 26/02/2009
‘Landscape – Let us Travel’ is the theme for the 2009 Pfaff Art Embroidery Challenge, an international biennial competition for artists working on sewing or embroidery machines.

There are three prizes to be won in the competition: The Grand Prize, for which the winner will be presented a Pfaff Creative Vision sewing and embroidery machine and the Pfaff creative 4D Embroidery System, worth $10,999; The Excellence Award, for which the winner will receive a Pfaff Creative 4.0 sewing and embroidery machine, worth $5,999; and The Fine Art Award, for which the winner will receive one Quilt Expression 4.0 sewing machine, worth $2,499.

The awards will be presented at the Knitting and Stitching show in London in October 2009, where approximately 50 of the entries will be on display. A full colour catalogue will be published alongside the exhibition of entries.

All entries must be created predominantly on a home sewing machine, using freehand embroidery or embroidery software, or a combination of the two. All entries must be produced exclusively for the competition and must not be shown or published anywhere else before October 2009.

The 2007 prize winners were Inga Liksaite from Lithuania who won the Grand Prize, Susanne Gregg from the USA who won the Excellence Award and Michael Brennand-Wood from the UK who won the Fine Art Award. You can see their work pictured at the bottom of this article.

For a complete list of rules and an entry form please email Jacqueline.govin@free.fr. The deadline for entries is 15 May 2009.
