The first Art in Action event took place with about 50 artists in 1977. Over the last 31 years it has grown significantly and is now an annual pilgrimage for anyone interested in the visual arts. At Waterperry visitors can: see and buy new art; attend demonstrations; learn new creative skills; buy from the Craft Market and purchase art materials that will make it possible for ‘would be artists’ to take home the tools they need to get started.
Look out for the Textiles marquee, which every year features a mixture of established and up and coming textile artists displaying and demonstrating their work. There are also practical classes available for those who want to learn more.
In addition, Art in Action offers fine music, performing artists, storytelling for children and dialogues on creativity and work. There are guided tours of the beautiful Waterperry gardens where picnics are popular and also of the exquisite frescos on the walls of Waterperry House that were completed in 2006 - a 10-year project. There is also a wide range of refreshments; cream teas from the Pear Tree Restaurant, a good selection of wines, champagne and Pimms served on the lawn in front of the house and numerous food stalls throughout the site.
All in all Art in Action is a must visit for families and individuals passionate about the visual arts and creative performances.
Featuring over 400 demonstrating artists and craftsmen, designer-makers, art teachers, performing artists and musicians, 16-19 July 2009.
