The Climate is Changing is a new exhibition organised by the International Feltmakers Association to help promote the art of feltmaking. It presents an exciting opportunity for textile artists to have their work included in an exhibition that will travel across three countries.
The exhibition is a collaboration between The International Feltmaking Association, Filz-Netzwerk from Germany and Coordinamento Tessitori from Italy. The exhibition will be inaugurated at Feltrosa 2010, the annual Italian feltmakers meeting, which is now in its fifth year. The exhibition will open on 7 May 2010 in Prato, Italy before moving to Germany. It will then come over to the United Kingdom to continue touring until 2012.
The theme of the exhibition is climate change, a critical issue facing the world today. Artists are invited to create something through this theme, perhaps taking ideas from their local environment. It is hoped this will improve relationships between artists and organisations from different countries. The catalogue will be illustrated in colour and printed in three languages, German, Italian and English.
Feltmakers and textile artists alike are invited to take part by submitting entries for consideration by the selection panel. A maximum of two entries is permitted by individuals or groups, but all artists must be members, or agree to become members for the duration of the exhibition tour, of one of the three organizations collaborating on the exhibition. Work submitted must be predominantly made using techniques of handmade felt and must be work made after 31 December 2008. The deadline for submissions is 1 November 2009, so you still have plenty of time to get creative!
