Calling all keen makers! Would you like to make money working where and when suits you, to make and help design fabulous items that people actually need
I have recently received an email from Holly Edwards, a friend of mine who you may remember from her time here at HotHive Textiles, as she has joined forces with a group of keen entrepreneurs based around Cambridge and London who are trying to set up a business that aims to turn mass production on its head. Their watchwords are ethics and sustainability, an alternative to sweatshop mass production.
Their company, WeFab, is launching soon and they are looking for skilled makers for example in sewing, knitting, jewellery, etc who care about sustainability and want to take part. The company are creating a virtual shop which links individual consumers with makers, so that people know exactly where and by whom their items are being produced.
As a maker, you would be able to choose how much work you want to take on, and when you do it. What’s more, as the business is being run as a not-for-profit, the shop will not make huge mark-ups or take eye-watering commissions. They want to make things fair for both the makers and the consumers!
WeFab would like to hear from anyone who would like to make some money doing what they love to do. At this stage no firm commitments need to be made, they are simply trying to establish the level of interest in the project. Please email Holly at holly.edwards@humanitariancentre.org for further details.
