Felt by Design (Sheila Smith)

My fascination with the process of feltmaking started in the early 1980s and has grown steadily ever since. I am particularly interested in creating different effects within the felt combining a range of fibres and fabrics with the wool to produce innovative fabrics. Recently I have been experimenting with the needle punch embellisher machines and combining dry needle felting with traditional wet felting techniques.

I enjoy writing about felt and have published articles and books on the subject since 1995. My most recent book is Felt to Stitch, published by Batsford in 2006 and the next one Embellish, Stitch, Felt also published by Batsford is due out in 2008.

I teach workshops regularly and do have to try to find time to develop my own work.
