Alicia’s textile work is mostly about colour and beauty. Like music, which freely evokes pleasurable feelings in the listener, she hopes her pieces will offer visual enjoyment to viewers, rather than require complex interpretation. She is particularly known for her unique use of, and passion for, colour. Alicia’s background is in photography, and her way of seeing reflects her training. She works in an intuitive way, on the design wall, using freeform cutting, free curved piecing, fused appliqué and fabric collage. Inspiration comes from many different sources, visual and imagined, as diverse as the colours of nature, the urban townscape, the needs of the planet and the magic of ideas. Alicia has studied with many well-known international textile teachers, exhibits internationally and has won several awards, most recently the Society of Designer Craftsmen's Pollie Weiss prize for most exciting use of colour by an established member. She lectures and teaches, and works to commission. Alicia is a member of a number of textile associations and exhibiting groups, among them ColourFX Textile Art, the Society of Designer Craftsmen, the Somerset Guild of Craftsmen, Somerset Art Works, and South West Textile Group. Exhibitions in 2009 have included work shown at the World Textile Art Biennal in Argentina, Alicia's country of birth. Exhibitions in 2010: Colour and Light, with glass artist Nina Gronw-Lewis (see information under News), and Coming of Age with South West Textiles in Bridport, St Ives and Wells.
