The Royal School of Needlework’s (RSN) mission is to teach, practise and promote the art of hand embroidery to the highest standards. Our Courses are open to everyone from the complete beginner or the expert embroiderer. Students on our day class, whether studying over several months or on the two year foundation degree are taught the traditional techniques of hand embroidery and encouraged to use these versatile stitches in both traditional and modern design contexts. In September 2009 we will be starting a two-year Foundation Degree in Hand Embroidery, the first of its kind in the UK. The course will take place at Hampton Court Palace in Surrey, the RSN’s home and is open to everyone with a passion for hand embroidery, especially those wanting to make a career in the embroidery world. Our commercial Studio undertakes new commissions and the restoration of historical embroidered pieces from the private customer to stately homes, public buildings and corporate customers. We work projects on any scale, large or small, including family heirlooms. We have a Collection of textiles and archives and a small selection is on display at the RSN and on loan to external exhibitions. The RSN is a registered charity (RCN 312774) and receives no government funding. You can support our work by becoming a Friend or Special Supporter.
