Profile
My work is inspired by surfaces, pattern repeats, ideas of concealment, memory and hidden connections. Exploring colour, looking at complementary colour and colour relationships currently excites me. Words are important to me too, and can often trigger a whole series of ideas to work through.
My current practice involves mark making through drawing, printing, colouring and stitching onto paper and fabric. I love these processes and use them to explore surfaces with simple repetitive imagery, creating depth through layering. Machine and hand stitching from a simple stitch dictionary are used for emphasis, texture or simply to make a mark.
I teach in F.E. as a part time lecturer and on a freelance basis in stitched textiles and design. I love what I do and enjoy sharing my skills through workshops, talks, masterclasses and as a mentor. I exhibit regularly with “Fusion” Textile Artists North
East, and act as group organiser.
